MARCH 5 PRIMARY ELECTION

Meet the Six Republican Candidates for Burke County Board of Commissioners

Posted

This week, The Paper features candidate profiles for the six Republicans seeking seats on the Burke County Board of Commissioners in the upcoming primary election. Three are incumbents – Scott Mulwee, Johnnie Carswell, and Jeff Brittain – and three are challengers – Brian Barrier, Shawn Freeman, and Mike Stroud.

Each candidate was provided with an equal and fair opportunity to respond to questions about their background and about specific issues Burke County is facing. All were given nearly two weeks to complete their responses.

Each candidate’s answers are presented here as they were provided to The Paper without editing except in the case of obvious spelling or grammar errors. The Paper’s questions are in bold. Responses are in regular type.

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, March 5. Early voting begins on Wednesday, Feb. 14. The last day to register to vote in the primary election is Friday, Feb. 9.

Senior Reporter Marty Queen provided the questions to the candidates and compiled the responses. He may be reached at marty@thepaper.media or 828-445-8595.
