Laiken Baker, a third-grade student teacher at Salem Elementary School, is scheduled to graduate in December from Appalachian State University.

Savannah Epley and Laiken Baker, Appalachian State student teachers, are wrapping up their teaching internships in Burke County. Both reflect on the joys and challenges of leading classrooms, from building relationships with students to managing unexpected responsibilities like testing and data interpretation.
