Burke County Manager Brian Epley said Crosslink Church on U.S. 70 West has the right idea when it comes to hurricane debris disposal. Residents are asked to bring their debris to the right of way because crews can't come onto private property to get it. Folks should also separate vegetative debris from other types, just like Crosslink has done here.

Hurricane Helene left a massive amount of debris in her wake when she swept through Burke County, and crews under contract to the county have been busy picking it all up.

But they’re hitting a snag: Folks aren’t putting the debris close enough to the road. County Manager Brian Epley explained crews can’t legally remove items that are on private property and not N.C. DOT right of ways.
