Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded on Aug. 30 to the area of Corpening Bridge Road, near the Canoe Access, after a group of individuals kayaking on Johns River advised that they had located human remains. Further investigation led to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division executing a search warrant at 2786 Pax Hill Road, Morganton.
Robert Dale Ford, Rocky Lee Dale, and Lorie Knight Stevens were taken into custody and each charged with one count each of Felony Concealment of Death and Disturbing Human Remains. Robert Dale received a $135,000 secured bond, Rocky Dale received no bond, Lorie Stephens received a $75,000.00 secured bond. All three individuals have a first court appearance on September 9, 2024, at the Burke County Courthouse. The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are expected.
