An alert resident telephoned police at 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday after hearing someone yelling for help. Morganton Public Safety Officer discovered a man lying on the side of West Fleming Drive near Asheville Street, a victim of a hit and run.
The victim was pushing his bicycle on the side of West Fleming Dr. walking toward traffic when he was struck by a vehicle.
Soon after Public Safety received call from the store clerk at Murphy's gas station, this one telling officers about a person was driving a gold SUV with a flat right tire and damage to the passenger side.Â
Officers in the area located the vehicle on Asheville Street. The vehicle pieces left behind at the scene of the hit and run matched the vehicle.
Officers confirmed that Amber Anne Duck, 31, of Morganton was the driver of the Gold Honda CR-V SUV that had struck the man on West Fleming Drive and continued on to the Murphy’s. The status of the male is unknown at this time and the motor vehicle crash is still under investigation.
