In October, the City of Morganton issued 375 storm-related and regular construction permits that totaled $10.9 million.
In the days after Hurricane Helene, the City issued storm-related permits free of charge and has continued to do so. These permits include building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work due to flood and storm damage.
289 residential permits include reroofing, house reconstruction from tree damages, replacing structures, etc.
84 commercial permits issued for restaurant remodels, reframing business offices, rebuilding properties, and rewiring projects
One significant project is the 64 permits issued to five units for Riverbend Apartments, totaling $5,213,744. This is 47.83% of the total construction value in October.
Other noteworthy projects include:
$475,000 for Burke United Christian Ministries for electrical and plumbing work to convert the former Food Lion at 570 E. Fleming Drive to their new location
$159,500 for multiple businesses on Sanford Drive like Greenway Dental, Catawba Valley Staffing, Edward Jones, etc.
$25,000 for wiring of T-Mobile telecommunications equipment and tower
In October 2023, 364 permits totaling $7.6 million in construction value were issued.
The records are available through Morganton’s Development and Design Services department, which reviews and oversees incoming permits.
