Old Colony Players will present “Shrek the Musical” at the Fred B. Cranford Amphitheatre at 401 Church St. NW in Valdese beginning Friday, April 21, and continuing into the first week of May.
Produced with permission of Music Theatre International, "Shrek, the Musical” brings the familiar Dreamwork movie, “Shrek” to live theater.
“Personally, I believe they have taken a great story and made it a thousand times better,” said Edyth Potter, Old Colony Players Executive Director. “It is a show for the whole family to enjoy together with music that will send you away humming and tapping your toes!”
The cast includes several veteran actors including Ken Davis and Hunter Curtis who portray Shrek and Donkey. Samantha Morgan appears in her first lead role as Princess Fiona, and John David Ingle plays Lord Farquaad. Andrea Skelton will make her musical debut as the Dragon.
“You have not lived until you see our tap dancing rats,” said Potter. “In this world that seems to hold so much heaviness and darkness for so many people right now, this show is a true burst of fun, laughter and hope. We are very excited to bring this story to life for the community."
Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. on April 21, 22, 27, 28, 29 and May 4, 5, and 6.
Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $10 for students from first grade through college (with ID). Purchase tickets online at oldcolonyplayers.com/tickets or call the box office at 828-522-1150.
