FOR THE PAPERHorsePower Park hosted a thrilling night of racing action on May 9, featuring a 12-lap Crown Vic race for $700.
The field for the Crown Vic race was set after two heat races. Justin Murray won the first heat race in his No. M-1 machine, with Kyle Moore right on his bumper before Homer Cook beat Justin Truitt to win the second heat race.
In the main event, Robbie Davis appeared to have lost an engine and slowed coming down the front stretch. Leader Justin Watts didn’t see Davis in the smoke and slammed violently into the rear of Davis. Neither driver was seriously hurt in the crash, but both cars suffered serious damage.
When the racing resumed, Valdese driver Joey Barker took the lead and the checkered flag as the Barkers remained undefeated in 2026 Crown Vic action at their home track.
Crown Vic Young Guns action saw Luke Moore win the heat race over Caden Barker only to have the youngest Barker beat Moore to the finish in the feature as he claimed a second straight win.
Drexel driver Clay Ross also made it back-to-back weeks in victory lane as he won both the Pro Four heat race and the 12-lap main event over Scott Bones Jones.
Jason Ledford won the Thunder Bomber feature, while Riley Tester won the Renegade event.
Avery White beat Homer Cook in the FWD heat race. Local driver Kevin Saam was late getting to the track, missing both hot lap practice and his heat race.
“We weren’t going to race tonight,” Saam said. “I woke up this morning, mowed the grass, and was cleaning up around the shop. Around 2 p.m., I decided to come race. I had to change the motor in the race car, and we didn’t get to the track until almost 8 p.m.”
In the FWD main event, White beat Saam to the checkered flag.
HorsePower Park will be back racing tonight (May 16), with the Crown Vic division racing for $600. Gates open at 5 p.m.
Also this evening, Tri-County Speedway hosts the fourth annual Shrine Asphalt 100. Nine divisions will be in action, highlighted by a 100-lap feature for the late models. Gates open at 2 p.m. and racing starts at 6:30 p.m.
And at Hickory Motor Speedway tonight, Kevin Bumgarner will be trying for his 12th straight late model feature win. The action starts at 7 p.m.
